I created this image for the Lightwave Group's Resource Appreciation contest for March/April and won 3rd place with it.
Basically, the rules are that you must use at least model posted in LWG's resources section that are downloadable by the public (hence Resource Appreciation), the image must be created during the duration of the contest, and that it satisfies the particular contest's theme. This time, it was Star Trek.
I used the magnificent Enterprise-A model built by Dennis Bailey, as well as several planets created by Fabio Passaro, and just kind of mixed and matched the sizes and things.
And finally, I was inspired by the well known poem "High Flight" written by Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee during World War II.
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there;
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of god.
